Jim Cramer’s CNBC Investment Club will host a “Morning Meeting” livestream every weekday at 10:20 am ET. Recap the key moments of Tuesday. 1. Stocks fell on Tuesday, with the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all down about 1%. China’s disappointing economic data and concerns over its second rate cut in three months. “Our market should trade on its own, not take cues from China,” Jim Cramer said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, U.S. retail sales were slightly stronger in July. Note that these numbers include the month of Amazon Prime Day. But maybe the Fed has another reason to raise rates this year? 2. We have started a position at Oracle (ORCL), a recognized leader in business software that is truly powering their cloud business. The stock is down about 9% from its peak in mid-June, making it a good entry point. Oracle’s new second-generation cloud infrastructure offerings are highly competitive with Amazon’s AWS, Alphabet’s Google Cloud, and Microsoft’s Azure. Oracle stock will deliver about the same earnings growth rate as Microsoft over the next two years, at about a two-thirds multiple, with a slightly higher annual dividend yield. 3. Palo Alto Networks (PANW) fell Tuesday after a four-session winning streak that put an end to a string of steep declines that began with competitor warnings. Palo Alto will host Investor Day and announce quarterly results after the closing bell on Friday. According to Deutsche Bank, there is speculation that the cybersecurity leader may exit the hardware business. If you want to get into PANW, we recommend buying before the quarter and after.
