A dramatic change, the new Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 look nothing like the previous model, with the small, bean-shaped design of the previous Galaxy Buds replaced with a sleek, long stem, or what Samsung calls a “blade,” more like the Apple AirPods.
At Samsung Unpacked, two new earbuds were announced: the Galaxy Buds 3 and the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. The biggest difference in appearance and function that distinguishes them is that the base model has an open design, while the Pro has an in-ear design.
The former is better for long periods of use, as the open design reduces ear fatigue. It’s also great for running and other outdoor activities where you need to be aware of the situation while listening to music. The Pro’s in-ear design delivers immersive sound and blocks out ambient noise. The base model also blocks out external sounds, as both models feature ANC.
Another key difference is the earphones’ speakers: the Pro features two-way speakers with planar tweeters and dual amplifiers, while the base model has a one-way speaker, meaning the Pro has better high-frequency sound thanks to the tweeter, and the dual amplifiers give it a clearer, more detailed soundstage.
Both new models feature a blade (or stem) that you can pinch or swipe up and down to control the device and tweak the volume, and the Pro goes a step further by including a blade light as well.
Samsung claims that the Adaptive ANC and Adaptive EQ on both models intelligently analyze internal and external sounds in real time to give you the best listening experience wherever you are.
Both earbuds are IP57 rated, which means they should be pretty water resistant. The Galaxy Buds 3 series also supports wireless charging. The Galaxy Buds 3 will retail for $180, while the Pro will cost $250. Both models come in silver and white and are available for preorder starting today, with general availability starting July 24.
