The “Made by Google” leaks continue today with more details from people using the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL.
Two videos arePixophone” posted on TikTok ( Y Tech B). This is pre-release hardware, as evidenced by the etchings on the back panel that Google used to identify prototype units. However, this is more final hardware, given the presence of the “G” logo. There’s a sticker/label on it to hide the pattern.
In comparison, you’ll notice that the smaller Pixel 9 has a glossy back panel, while the 9 Pro XL has a fingerprint-resistant matte finish. However, the two models have swapped flat side rails, meaning the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a much glossier surround. The difference is pretty obvious, and very disappointing.
On these devices, the regulatory markings appear near the bottom left edge. US Pixel phones haven’t had these markings for several generations (except for the Pixel Fold). Since the markings appear on the back, it’s unclear if this is just a prototype device design or if it’s the final international version.
There’s an obvious size difference between the Pixel 9’s (expected) 6.24-inch screen and the 9 Pro XL’s 6.73-inch screen, but it’s not a dramatic difference. (The Pixel 9 Pro is rumored to be 6.34 inches.)
The second video compares the Pixel 9 Pro XL to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has a 6.8-inch screen: In these shots, you can really see just how thick the camera bar is.
