American Airlines’ route network leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to long-haul international flights. Luckily, short-haul international flights are a different story, especially when it comes to the Caribbean. On that note, American just added a pretty cool new route from my local airport that I’m looking forward to flying.
American Airlines to fly to South Caicos Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands
American Airlines will begin offering twice-weekly flights between Miami (MIA) and South Caicos (XSC) in the Turks and Caicos Islands, beginning February 15, 2025. The flights will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with the following schedule:
AA3815 Miami to South Caicos Departing at 10:05am Arriving at 12:27pm
AA3815 South Caicos Island to Miami 1:44pm departure, 3:55pm arrival
The 628-mile flight is blocked off with a 2 hour 22 minute departure and 2 hour 11 minute arrival in Miami. The flight will be operated by subsidiary American Eagle on a 76-seat Embraer E175 with 12 first class seats.
Why this is a cool addition to your network
American Airlines now offers extensive service to Providenciales, the capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Currently, South Caicos only has domestic flights, with InterCaribbean Airlines serving Providenciales (just 51 miles away). The region has been looking to open international flights for some time, so it’s great to finally see it happening.
While the Turks and Caicos Islands are known for their amazing beaches, South Caicos is admittedly a bit more secluded than the Providenciales area, where resorts along Grace Bay tend to draw the big crowds.
For those interested in points hotels, the new South Caicos flights are sure to appeal. For example, Sail Rock Resort is located on the island of South CaicosWhile the hotel is not part of a major global hotel group, it is part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and is participating in the new Hilton Honors collaboration.
Additionally, Salterra Turks and Caicos, a Marriott Luxury Collection property on South Caicos that is a renovation of an existing property, is scheduled to open on February 15, 2025, the same date that the new flights are scheduled to launch.
South Caicos Island is close to Miami so I’ve had my eye on it for a while, and when this flight starts I’ll definitely use it.
Conclusion
American Airlines will begin offering twice-weekly flights between Miami and South Caicos in the Turks and Caicos Islands starting in February 2025. American will operate the route with an American Eagle Embraer E175 aircraft, marking the airport’s first international service. This will make South Caicos much easier to access, as the airport currently only serves flights from Providenciales.
What do you think about American Airlines adding flights to South Caicos?
