Google appears to have some new features in its pipeline for ChromeOS. This includes a new settings menu with Material User and Google Tasks integration in the quick settings tray.
ChromeOS and Android have long shared elements of their respective designs, but it looks like Google’s desktop OS will delve even further into Android’s look and feel.as discovered by C2 Production Twitter, the ChromeOS Settings menu is preparing a new redesigned material. The updated look combines classic ChromeOS with a modern Android look, but the biggest change is functionality.
This new settings menu in ChromeOS updates the behavior of various sidebar tabs. In existing versions of the platform, these tabs are simply used as shortcuts for sections that all end up in the same long list. With this new design, each section is split, which is how Android, iOS, Windows, and basically every other platform handles this. Certainly it is a welcome change.
The new design will appear as part of ChromeOS 117, but it’s unclear when it will become the default for everyone. That version is also currently being tested Updated global media controls and new welcome tour.
Also arrival In the future, there will be a new Google Tasks widget that will appear alongside your calendar on ChromeOS. Tapping the date in the bottom bar of ChromeOS currently brings up Google Calendar, but this new update also brings up Google Tasks. This is a logical addition and is in line with a feature request I made last year.
These features are currently enabled in the development version of ChromeOS behind the flag, but will be migrated to the stable OS over the coming weeks and months.
