A Royal Caribbean cruise ship scheduled to head from Seward to Vancouver experienced a problem with its propulsion system, causing the cruise ship to cancel the entire trip.
The Royal Caribbean Group ship Radiance of the Seas left Seward on Friday night, with stops in Juneau, Skagway, Haines and Ketchikan before heading on a seven-day cruise to Vancouver, British Columbia. . Passengers were notified Friday of the cancellation of the cruise.
“As you are aware, en route back to Seward, Radiance of the Seas’ propulsion system experienced a technical issue that affected the ship’s speed,” the company said in an email shared with the Daily News by a passenger. ” he said. “Unfortunately, our team was unable to complete the necessary repairs to sail today. Royal Caribbean did not respond to questions about the cause of the mechanical problem or whether other trips would be affected.
“Due to technical issues, Radiance of the Seas has canceled its September 1st sailings. We are working directly with affected guests,” the company said in a written statement.
The line told passengers they would receive a full refund of their trip and credit. Passengers were able to stay on board for two days while docked in Seward, and were provided with complimentary food, drinks, activities, and a shuttle to Seward. Passengers said they could check out of the ship by noon Sunday and the company provided a free shuttle to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
