The nine-year-old PlayStation 4 video game has seen its prices soar following the release of the highly-anticipated film “Deadpool & Wolverine” last week.
Fans hoping to get their hands on the 2015 game Deadpool are paying as much as £116 on eBay, with an unopened, good condition copy selling for £330 last week.
Digital downloads are no longer available, so gamers will have to seek out a physical copy if they want to play the game.
“Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, had the sixth-highest opening weekend of all time at the box office.
The game was first released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, but its 2015 re-release has become harder to come by without paying a high price.
According to PriceChartingAccording to a research firm that tracks online media sales, the PS4 game, which was originally priced at £49.99, could have been purchased for just £9 when the second Deadpool movie was released in May 2018.
But anticipation for the third film in the series and the popularity of stars Reynolds and Jackman have seen prices for the game rise steadily since filming began in May 2023.
And with its release in July 2024, the game’s price has soared even further, to a record high.
It was released with $211 million at the domestic box office and $233 million at the international box office.
Reynolds took to Instagram to thank fans who came to see the film and said its success was “kind of hard to accept.”
Reynolds and fellow Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney bought the Welsh football club in 2020 and helped the team get promoted to League One.
The acquisition and its subsequent success was documented in the television series Welcome to Wrexham.
