A driver recently sparked new fears after pointing out that his high-tech rearview mirror allows him to read other people’s lips while waiting at traffic lights.
Tiktoker @notwxsoph recently highlighted how new rearview mirrors strip away even more layers of privacy from a life without privacy. This video has been viewed more than 2 million times at the time of publication.
The TikToker filmed a short clip of her in a new video nissan armada When you’re sitting at a traffic light. “I’m going to tell you all about this now. It’s a new car with super high tech,” she explained, zooming in on the rearview mirror. “Don’t talk about anyone, I’m reading lips.”
Her camera was focused on the couple in the back, and it looked as if she was staring at their car. “Oh, are you all fighting? Don’t put the names first and last, because I’m probably going to go tell them. I mean, this shows all the features.”
Commenters were shocked by this information, with many lamenting the loss of their privacy bubble.
“I pick my nose at red lights. This is not ideal,” one person wrote.
“Man, I literally cry when I’m driving. Please leave me alone,” a second man agreed.
“They’re going to see me sobbing and singing the most heartbreaking music in 4K,” added a third.
@notwxsoph Your secret is safe with me 🤞🏼🤞🏼 (I will send it to my group message as soon as possible)
Another commenter suggested that at least the mirrors would allow people to see people yelling when they drive poorly. “I’m glad the people who cut me off can see my anger in 4K,” they wrote.
Some vowed to install tinted windows for privacy.
One viewer joked: “This Sternhagen officer has tinted my windshield.”
“This is why I’m wearing 5% tint all over lol,” another added.
Some people were surprised by the new technology.
“My rental car has this and I was shocked because I thought it was just a backup camera,” one commenter said.
“It’s like having a camera in your house,” agreed another.
@notwxsoph created this clip as a humorous anecdote, but new car technologies like 4K rearview mirrors are changing the way people drive.Several available features make driving more comfortable safer. These include blind spot monitoring, a virtual exterior mirror, and a drowsiness detector. However, new technology may have some drawbacks. For example, a man was trapped in a Corvette and firefighters had to break a window to free him.
