A friendly conversation on Monday between Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the SIGGRAPH 2024 conference in Colorado lasted just a few minutes. Unexpected turns.
It started innocently enough, with Huang praising the capabilities of Nvidia’s GPUs and Zuckerberg talking about his vision for the future of AI chatbots. But by the end, Huang and Zuckerberg were swapping custom-made jackets — which is down to viral meme From earlier this year.
“It’s black and it’s made of leather and sheepskin. It feels warm. I mean, get this guy a chain,” Zuckerberg said of the coat he got for Huang.
Huang gave Zuckerberg a new leather jacket he said his wife Lori bought him to commemorate SIGGRAPH this year. He’s been wearing it for the past two hours.
“It’s worth more because it’s used,” Zuckerberg said.
Another surprising highlight of the hour-long conversation was a reference to Zuckerberg’s cows. reinforced At his Hawaiian ranch, Zuckerberg gave a snarky speech and changed his tune (Zuckerberg described it as “in its early stages”). Huang didn’t hesitate when it came to criticizing Zuckerberg—a privilege that Meta’s team enjoys. Relying on Nvidia for model training hardwaremaybe.
“It needs an AI that doesn’t judge,” Huang said.
Once, Huang told an anecdote about Zuckerberg’s tomato-chopping habit. While they were cooking cheeseburgers together at Huang’s house, Zuckerberg was tasked with chopping tomatoes, Huang recounted.
“So, Mark, I gave him a knife,” Huang said, “and he sliced tomatoes. Each one was sliced perfectly, to the millimeter. But the really interesting thing was that I expected all the tomatoes to be sliced and sort of stacked, like a deck of cards. But when I turned around, he said he needed another plate. The reason for that is that all the tomatoes he cut, they didn’t touch each other. Once you separate a tomato slice from another tomato, it doesn’t touch them again.”
Huang jokingly chided Zuckerberg for wanting a second cheeseburger for dinner, to which Zuckerberg replied, “Make me another cheeseburger, Jensen.”
But the interview ended on a more flattering note, with Huang praising Zuckerberg’s character.
“I think Mark is strong,” he said. “Look, this guy is strong.”
Zuckerberg threw his arms around Jensen and said, “You too, man.”
