Instagram has launched a new feature that lets users add up to 20 photos or videos to their carousel post, as the platform embraces the “photo dump” trend. In 2017, Instagram added the ability to post up to 10 photos or videos in a scrollable carousel post. Now, you can post twice as much content.
When Instagram first became popular, the goal of the app was to have one perfect photo to share with your followers. Over the years, the idea of “sending photos” gained popularity, as users began posting a series of photos and videos in a circular format instead of worrying about choosing one photo.
By doubling the number of photos and videos you can share in your photo carousel, Instagram is embracing the photo sharing feature just in time for the end of summer. The update reminds us of when you used to upload an entire photo album of your summer vacation photos to Facebook during the platform’s peak popularity.
It’s worth noting that this change brings Instagram closer to TikTok’s Carousel feature, which allows users to include up to 35 photos in a single post.
While some users may be excited about the update, others may see it as overkill, as Instagram continues to move away from the simple photo-sharing app it was a decade ago. Not everyone will care to scroll through 10+ slides of a user’s post, especially when the app is already packed with other content formats, like Reels, Stories, and Notes.
The expanded cap launch came as no surprise, as Instagram Spotted test She came back in March.
