A new interchange connecting Texas 360 and Interstate 30 in Arlington will open in all directions Thursday, completing construction that began in 2016.
With the project’s completion, some of the ramps connecting I-360 and I-30 have opened, but on Thursday the final section of the project – northbound Texas 360 and eastbound and westbound Interstate 30 – has opened to traffic. A new ramp will open for motorists to connect.
The interchange project replaces an earlier interchange built in the 1950s, when Interstate 30 was a turnpike, when people had to circle through cloverleaves to get on and off the freeway. I had to pass through the place.
Once the Turnpike toll was paid, I-30 became a free highway, but drivers traveling between Routes 30 and 360 still have to exit the highway and pass through a cloverleaf. did. From there, drivers pass through a traffic light onto a service road to access the 30 or 360 on-ramp.
TxDOT said the new interchange “converted the original cloverleaf design into a modern omnidirectional interchange with connecting ramps for all trips between I-30 and SH 360.”
The new design is similar to other large interchanges in North Texas, including High Five.
Officials said motorists are asked to remain vigilant as the project nears completion.
