Attendees at the Dream Force conference in San Francisco love to be the butt of jokes. Last year, Seth Meyers entertained the audience with a 40-minute presentation in which he mocked the tech industry’s liberal use of self-affirmations. “You achieve, you inflate, you grow… you are accelerating“‘Architect?’ said Myers. ‘I’ve seen the word ‘architect’ used as a verb. I don’t even think architects use the word ‘architect’ as a verb.’”
On Wednesday night this year, the criticism came from comedian John Mulaney, who, like Myers, reportedly worked parts of his latest show but spent much of his time criticizing the tech crowd, much to their delight. Mulaney reportedly said, “Let me get this straight. You’re hosting an event about the ‘future of AI’ in a city that has failed miserably to help humanity?”
According to the San Francisco Standard, Mullaney later noted that “some of the most obscure phrases ever invented have been used here over the past three days. The fact that there are 45,000 ‘goers’ to this place cannot diminish the value of the title any further.”
