New Year’s Eve got off to a rocky start for New York area rail riders.
Amtrak reported experiencing server issues that caused significant delays and service interruptions throughout Sunday morning.
Most of the delays appeared to affect trains in the Northeast Corridor, but also extended to Keystone Service and Empire Service. Amtrak warned passengers that many trains could be delayed by up to two hours.
A small number of trains between New York City and Boston had to be canceled before full service resumed by late morning.
Many vacationers were stranded inside Moynihan Train Hall, including a pastor who was unable to attend Sunday services in Boston.
“I was supposed to get to Boston at 9:40 a.m., and the church service is at 11:30 a.m., so I go there a few times a month,” Alan Burrows said. “So we had to change some things.”

Trains arriving and departing from Penn Station were still experiencing delays of less than an hour by about 8 a.m., but those trains eventually returned to normal service.
