History of Figment
Figment debuted alongside Dreamfinder in 1983 as part of Journey into Imagination, which opened a few months after EPCOT Center opened. The ride showed guests the beauty, power, and splendor of imagination and was well received, allowing Figment and Dreamfinder to become the park’s pseudo-mascots.
Given EPCOT Center’s original goal of being an education-oriented experience, traditional Disney characters commonly recognized by park patrons were not initially used as meet-and-greets or walking attractions. Instead, original characters created for the park were used for this role, with two of his characters, Figment and Dreamfinder, with whom guests could interact.
Journey Into Imagination has gone through three different iterations over the years. Read all about his 40-year history of this vehicle.
Figment has evolved into a park icon over the past few decades, building a strong fan base through appearances in merchandise, inspired desserts, and even video games. He may be making the transition to the big screen soon, as the Seth Rogen-produced “Figment” movie is in development.
