SAG-AFTRA said today that its scheduled talks with the video game industry, which began Tuesday, have ended without reaching an agreement.
The union said in a brief statement tonight: SAG-AFTRA and the video game owners concluded the scheduled negotiations on the Interactive Media Agreement. No agreement has been reached and the current agreement will remain in effect while the parties make final efforts to reach an agreement.
The news comes days after SAG-AFTRA’s 160,000 members voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike against 10 major video game companies. The vote percentage was 98.32% in favor.
Many of the issues involved in the 11-week Motion Picture and Television Union strike are common to those in the video game contract, including wages and artificial intelligence.
The 10 companies facing a potential strike are:
activision production company,
Blindlight LLC,
disney character voices company,
electronic arts production company,
epic Games Inc,
formosa Interactive LLC,
insomniac gaming company,
take 2 production company,
VoiceWorks Productions, Inc
WB Games Company
It’s been almost a year since the guild’s video game contract, known as the Interactive Media Agreement, was extended beyond its original expiration date. SAG-AFTRA’s last strike against toy companies, in 2016-17, lasted 183 days. Meanwhile, the union has been on strike against the film and television industry since July 14.
