A few months ago, it was reported that the Galaxy S24 series would come with iPhone-like emergency text messaging capabilities via satellite connectivity. Several other reports over the past few weeks have repeatedly indicated the presence of emergency features. A new leak confirms that the Galaxy S24 can indeed send text messages via satellite in case of an emergency.
Galaxy S24 confirmed to have emergency texting capability via satellite connection
New screenshots of Galaxy phones reveal what Samsung calls the emergency texting feature debuting on the Galaxy S24. It’s called “Emergency Text by Satellite.” Samsung explains that if you call emergency services when you’re out of range or not connected to a mobile network, you can connect via the satellite network and send an emergency text.
This feature is likely to work similarly to newer iPhones. Sending a text message with your GPS location to emergency response teams will help them find you and call for help. Ideal if you’re stuck in a remote location and can’t reach family, friends, or emergency response teams via mobile phone networks. This feature may be available on Galaxy S24 units with Exynos and Snapdragon chips.
Samsung has developed 5G NTN technology that provides two-way satellite communications. It meets the standards set by 3GPP (Release 17) and can be used with Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, it may be limited to some markets initially and then gradually expanded to other countries.
