Now there is a broader debate about the impact of smartphones and social media on mental health, particularly the mental health of young people. Last year, the Surgeon General issued an advisory saying that while they may have benefits, there is “sufficient evidence that social media may also pose a profound risk of harm.” At the same time, there have been concerns that smartphone and social media use could be harming young people.
