Below is a news release from the City of Idaho Falls.
IDAHO FALLS – The Idaho Falls Regional Airport is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $950,000 federal Small Community Air Service Development (SCASD) grant to support efforts to provide additional flights.
The $950,000 grant guarantees revenue to pursue and develop future air service to the Los Angeles area. The grant also aims to further reduce IDA’s airfare costs and strengthen connectivity between regions.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of our Congressional representatives in helping Idaho Falls receive this grant,” said Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper. “During the pandemic and after, the Idaho Falls Regional Airport has seen strong passenger demand for numerous destinations and airlines. As professionals continue to move to the region, we are looking forward to adding additional flights to new cities. The need is increasing, and this grant supports this need without using local property taxes.”
The Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) is limited to a maximum of 40 grant awards per year, with no more than four grants per state. There is no limit to the individual award amount, and the award amount will vary depending on the characteristics and merits of the selected proposal.
The total prize pool includes $150,000 from community partners, plus $10,000 from local media outlets that demonstrate how essential our services to the Los Angeles area are to the region. The airport has also committed $100,000 in fee waivers and marketing support for a limited time.
“We are very pleased with the news that we are a grant recipient and recognize the need for assistance in securing this much-needed route,” said Jamie Berish, Assistant Director of the Idaho Falls Regional Airport. I would like to thank the Ministry of Transport for their support.” “The impact this grant will have on travelers in the region is huge and we look forward to working with airlines to make this route a reality.”
With the award of the SCASD grant confirmed, airport staff will now work with partner airlines to demonstrate the feasibility of the new route. Further details will be announced in the future.
“Our community partners and all of the contributors who have won applications to these funds should be commended,” Casper said. “Public-private partnerships are fundamental to our region’s success and this is a prime example of what can be achieved when we all work together.”
