While people typically share TikTok videos with each other in group chats on messaging apps, TikTok is now allowing users to do so within its own platform. Users can now watch, comment, and interact together on TikTok.
The latest addition suggests that TikTok is interested in making its platform more social and a place to chat with friends, rather than just an entertainment platform where you interact with strangers.
As with one-on-one messages, group chats are only available to users over the age of 15. TikTok says it has added safety measures to protect teens aged 16 and 17.
No one, including teens, can be added to a group chat unless they have a mutual follower. If a teen is invited to join a group chat, they can only join if the group has at least one mutual friend. Additionally, when a teen creates a group chat, TikTok will ask them to review and approve new joiners.
You can create a group chat by clicking the Chat button at the top of your inbox and then selecting More options. You can then select the friends you want to include in the group and then click Start a group chat. To join an existing group chat via invitation, you can click the invitation and then click Join group.
TikTok also announced that it will be rolling out custom stickers in direct messages. The company sees this feature as a fun chat option that encourages users to create and upload their own custom stickers for everyone to use.
