Without even an official announcement, Embracer Group appears to have shut down British game studio Free Radical Design. time splitter A series of video games.
Staff at the Nottingham-based development company share thoughts, farewells and happy memories on Twitter (discovered via game informer), while others share job search updates on LinkedIn.
Many first learned about the developer’s closure today, December 11, 2023, thanks to a message on social media from a former staff member. Junior environment artist Alex Tan shared a number of photos of the team, following two tweets in which he said: “We say goodbye” and quoted the famous Tintin quote.What a week“meme.” Senior tech artist Adam Killary ended his emotional “last day” tweet with the iconic words, “It’s time to say goodbye.”
of The company’s official website was also shut down.I get a “404 Company Not Found” message. ‘ will be displayed on the screen. And in case there was any doubt, senior artist Mark Normington responded to a user on social media saying:Closed”.
So, that’s it. The studio was shut down without much mention and swept under the rug with no statement from Embracer or Prion. Game Informer and his VGC have reached out to his Embracer for comment.
In November, VGC reported that Embracer, which owns Free Radical-owned Deep Silver’s parent company Playon, was “under threat” of closure. The studio reorganized in 2021 to revive the TimeSplitters IP. But the writing was officially on the wall a few weeks ago when Prion “unofficially confirmed” the studio would face closure before Christmas (via VGC).
